Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride

Once again a Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride took place in Bournemouth and we were invited to display some of our bikes at the finish as several members were taking part in the ride. The day was perfect for the ride dry and sunny but not too hot for everyone who had dressed up in their ‘Tweeds’ and suits. The weather must have brought everyone out as the Bournemouth Ride was the largest in the UK with over 650 entrants! Out of the 771 rides taking place around the world the ride was the 12th highest fund raiser and the 13th largest turnout of riders. Finally to top the day off Richard Senior was awarded ‘Bike of the Ride’ for his Dommie.

Sammy Miller Norton Day

The Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum held a Norton Day so as we are the nearest Club we attended the event. Most of our members all rode in together so everyone could hear what Nortons sound like. We had almost 20 members with their bikes at the event. The President and Chairman of the Norton Owners Club both attended the event. Considering it was held during the week there was a good turn out of bikes.

Spirit of the 60’s Run

This year was the 30th Spirit of the 60’s Run organised by the Westland Classic Motorcycle Club. We have marshalled this Run every year since the start. Some of our members even join in the run. As we have always supported this event we present a prize for the ‘Best Norton’ in memory of Wally Davis. This year the prize was awarded to Dave Flanagan for his 1973 Norton 850 Commando.

Castle Coombe Classic Bike Track Day

We were invited back to Castle Coombe race circuit by Brooklands to take part in their group at the Classic Bike Track Day. This a great day out as all the bikes in the Brooklands group are ‘Classics’ so are very similar. Luckily this time we didn’t have any rain even though it was April which makes it far more enjoyable. The organisers were so pleased with the turn out of bikes that they wanted a group photo at the end of the day.

Stafford Classic Bike Show

Now everything is returning back to normal after Covid, the Stafford Classic Bike Show was back to it’s normal April slot. The Norton Owners Club had a display of ‘Dirt Bikes’ in the main hall. A couple of our members were asked to put their bikes on display. The bikes ranged from Trials, Speedway, Scrambling to other off road based bikes. We did get a first prize for Best Sidecar.

Parkinson’s UK Presentation

The Poole & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK have been the charity we support for a few years now but due to the Covid restrictions we haven’t been able to meet up with them. This however has not stopped our members raising funds for the charity. This has been through various events including raffles, sponsored shaves and our collection pot. Mike one of our members also painted 98 paintings during the lock down of many pets, people and vehicles which raised over £2,000. The True Lovers Knot had a charity pot which once opened had over £560 in it. The Vdub at the Pub show also donated another £300 as we displayed our motorcycle there and helped with the ‘cream teas’ for the Vintage Cycle Ride. Eventually Committee Members from the Parkinson’s Branch were able to join us for an evening where we were able to present them with a cheque for £4,839.61 which was greatly received!

Club Christmas Dinner

After a break of a couple of years due to Covid we were once again able to hold our Annual Club Christmas Dinner. Although down on numbers from previous dinners we had an enjoyable evening with lots of good food and drink. The usual raffle took took place with lots of prizes having being saved up for a couple of years so nobody missed out on a prize. In total we raised £236 for the Poole & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK with a couple of extra donations. Thank you to everyone for donating.

DocBike Charity Run

This was new event as the DocBike Charity has only been running for about a year. We were invited to put a display of bike on at the finish of the run. Luckily the weather stayed nice after a very foggy start. There were over 160 bikes on the run which was good considering all the fuel shortages due to panic buying. We had the pleasure of one of the Bike Doctors, DR Ian coming for a chat on our stand and have a sit on a couple of the bikes. He also offered to attend one of our Club nights to give us a chat on the ‘Biker Down’ first aid.

Club Summer BBQ

As is traditional we always hold a Summer BBQ on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Usually we have a ride out beforehand but due to Covid we gave it a miss this year. Therefore we were could earlier than normal and enjoy the glorious sunshine. It was nice to be able to get together old friends and welcome some of the new members who have recently join the Club. There was plenty of food, drink, homemade cakes and a few other delights. A good time was had all. Unfortunately due to the summer season being condensed into a short period may members could not attend as they had other commitments.

TLK Mini Fest

After a two year break due to Covid the True Lovers Knot once again held their Mini Fest to help raises funds for Parkinsons UK and Macmillan Cancer Research. As we support Parkinsons and the TLK is our home venue we put on a display of bikes to help make the day a great success plus we could enjoy the entertainment which was taking place all day. In the evening we were entertained by the excellent Badger Blues Band and a had a few games of Shove Halfpenny .
